An intrepid 10 ventured to Cambridge's Volac park on Sunday for the season opening festival.
Fortunately the weather was extremely kind, compared to the proper rugby weather on the Saturday - which left our players with only tackling, as a new skill, to contend with.
Wendens faced Cambridge Blood, Shelford Navy, Cambridge Gold and Royston Crows and gave extremely good accounts of themselves through out. Whilst it's not competitive, under RFU dictate, honours were even across the 4 games and very close - even with the odd team being a lot bigger than ours.
Some great tries were scored, Wendens 24-19!, but most importantly all the players got stuck in with tackling and finished the day with big smiles!!
Special mention to Arthur Phillips, who has joined this season and had a rather swift learning curve - but not taken a backward step and kept putting his all into every minute he played. Well done from coaches Digger and James.
Royston at home next, where we hope to have more of the U9s available to play.
