Dear Members

We hope you have all enjoyed your summer break and are looking forward to a new and exciting Rugby season at WAMFRC. Our pre-season training session starts on Saturday 4th September at Friends School, Saffron Walden, from 10.30am to 12.00am. Then the season will kick off fully on Saturday 11th September, again at Friends’ School, for the usual 10.15am arrival to start prompt at 10.30am.  There will be training for the children, but this session will also be used for new registrations.

Subscriptions will remain unchanged this year and you can benefit again by registering early. If you pay  by the 10th September you can benefit from an Early Bird discount and  pay the cheaper fees of - £40 for 1 child, £60 for 2 children and £70 for more children.  Registrations received from the 11th September onward will be charged as per the membership form.

All the money raised for your fees goes directly back into Club funds to be spent solely on the children, to buy kit and also to subsidise the Club trips.  This year we are planning another Wasps Trip which is provisionally booked for 16th October.  More details to follow.

Alasdair Bovaird is our chairman and Director of Rugby with Iain Keys acting as Vice Chairman.  They will be available either in the pavilion or on the touchlines should you have any queries regarding coaching.

We are still in the process of finalising our fixtures for the season and a draft fixture list is in the Calendar section. The fixture list will include the usual excellent mix of training,  match play (Saffron Walden, Shelford, Royston etc.), special events (Wendens Festival, Wasps Trip and a tour for the U9s, U10s and U11s amongst others) and, of course, social activities (Quiz night, End of Season Supper).   Further details will be posted on our website www.wendenrugby.com where we have a blog section with the most up to date information.

Reminder - children playing at WAMRFC must be of school age.  Pre-school children are recommended to try Ruggerbugs at the Lord Butler Leisure Centre.  Again, this year all U6 players have a discounted price as 1 hour of training is plenty for this age group. U6 training runs from 10.30am – 11.30am with lots of rugby-related fun and games.  Please discount your fees by £5.00 if you have an U6 player..

Finally, we are extremely fortunate to be able to use the fantastic facilities at the Friends’ School, so please remember it is a NO SMOKING SITE and DOGS are NOT ALLOWED.

There is plenty to look forward to this season and we hope to see you all there having lots of fun and winning plenty of matches!

Sport Relief 2010 - Saturday 20th March

Thank you to all those who took part in and sponsored the mile run for Sport Relief on Saturday. About 65 runners entered and we raised about £400, to which gift aid will be added. Well done to Tommy Villiers who finished first!

Wendens Ambo Mini Rugby Football club is an independent Rugby Club affiliated directly to Cambridgeshire RFU. It was founded in 1994.

We meet for training on a Saturday morning at The Friends School grounds in Mount Pleasant Road, Saffron Walden from 10.30am to 12.00noon. (See maps)

As a club we have an RFU trained coaching staff of over 25 coaches and cover the age groups for Under 7's right through to Under 12's.

We provide training facilities for both Girls and Boys interested in Rugby Football.

Coffee, Tea and soft drinks as well as hot bacon rolls are available for consumption from the Pavilion behind the Friends School buildings.

As always our priority is to ensure that all our members enjoy learning to play rugby and that they do so in a way which is safe and involves everyone in the club. Our team of RFU qualified coaches and their assistants are already planning their sessions and we have been able to secure a wide range of fixtures for the children to play in which we expect to be fun as well as offering the right level of competition.

Please refer to the FAQ's section for information on Age Groups, Fees, Kit, etc.

“Rugby is proud of the high standards it sets in player, coach and spectator behaviour – and Wendens Mini Rugby is no exception. We believe that high standards of sportsmanship and – for example – the unquestioning acceptance of the referee’s decisions (however inexplicable they may seem to you!) are key lessons not just for rugby but for life.

These documents from the Rugby Football Union set out the expected standards: we hope that they come as second nature, but perhaps we all sometimes need a reminder.”
